5-Ingredient Air Fryer Flautas

Quick, easy, and way more delicious than anything you’ll find in the freezer section, these air fryer flautas will be a go-to recipe for lunch or snacktime. The ingredients are simple, and you can top them with everything you love – guac, sour cream, hot sauce, queso.
What Makes This Recipe So Good
- Air fryer flautas are SO easy to make, and they’re a great way to use up any leftover chicken you might have on hand. The ingredients are simple – shredded chicken, cream cheese, shredded cheese, salsa, and tortillas – but you can dress them up with any of your favorite toppings. I like to add a dollop of guac, a drizzle of hot sauce and queso, and a little more salsa to finish them off.
- You can make this recipe compatible for gluten-free or low-carb diets just by changing the type of tortillas you use. That makes it super easy to meet a variety of needs with one meal, which I will never be upset about!
Flautas vs. Taquitos – What’s the Difference?
It’s all in the tortilla!
Flautas are made with 10-inch or 12-inch flour tortillas. They’re also typically rolled in a way that makes one end of the flauta narrower than the other end – so they’re very slightly cone-shaped.
Taquitos are made with 6-inch or 8-inch corn tortillas. They’re smaller than flautas, and they’re typically an even width from one end to the other. Since they use corn tortillas, taquitos are generally crispier than flautas, too.
Chef’s Tips
- You can use precooked rotisserie chicken, leftover chicken from another recipe, or cook chicken specifically for your flautas. Personally, I like to use rotisserie chicken or leftover chicken just for ease. If you’re cooking chicken for this recipe, I highly recommend using my Best Ever Shredded Chicken recipe!
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket! To get really crispy tortillas, the air has to be able to circulate completely. Don’t stack or overlap the flautas, or even really let them touch. Work in batches as needed depending on the size of your air fryer and the number of flautas you’re cooking!

- 8 10-inch flour tortillas burrito-size tortillas
Equipment
- Large bowl

- Spoon 1-2 tablespoons chicken mixture horizontally across center of each tortilla. Cover filling with bottom edge of tortilla and continue rolling until tortilla is completely rolled. Set aside, seam-side down. Repeat until all flautas have been formed.
- Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place flautas in air fryer basket in one flat layer, working in batches as needed to avoid overcrowding basket. Spray tops of tortillas with cooking spray, then place basket in preheated air fryer.
- Air fry flautas 8 to 10 minutes, or until tortillas are golden brown and crispy. When ready, transfer flautas to plate or serving tray and repeat process until all flautas have been air fried. Top flautas with additional salsa, sour cream, hot sauce, or queso if desired and serve warm.
