🔥 What Makes This Recipe So Good
- This buffalo tofu is such a great vegetarian recipe for buffalo sauce fans! It has all the delicious flavors and spice of buffalo wings, but without the meat.
- The tofu comes out with a nice crispy crust. This method of cooking tofu is super easy and pretty much foolproof. After tossing the tofu in a seasoned cornstarch mixture, it gets baked until perfect and crispy. Such a satisfying bite!
- This recipe is incredibly easy to make! Tofu is a great vegetarian ingredient that can sound a little intimidating sometimes, but I promise you, once you’ve tried this method, you’ll want to do it over and over again. The buffalo sauce is a quick and easy homemade one with only a handful of ingredients. And you can easily adjust the amount of hot sauce to your preference.
👩🏼🍳 Chef’s Tips
- For best results, extra firm tofu works best for this recipe. I also highly recommend not skipping pressing the tofu to remove as much water as possible. If the tofu is too moist, it won’t get crispy. Don’t worry if you don’t have a tofu press though, you can press it without one. You’ll need a plate, paper towels or a lint-free dish towel, a cutting board and a heavy object, such as a large can, or heavy pan. First, you’ll drain the tofu block from its container, then wrap it in multiple paper towels. Line a plate with more paper towels (or a dish towel), place the wrapped tofu on top. Add a cutting board on top of the wrapped tofu, then add a heavy object on top right in the middle, and let sit for about 30 minutes. Check it halfway, as you might need to change up the paper towels if they’re soaked.
- Once the buffalo tofu bites are being tossed in the hot sauce, they should be served right away. Tofu will absorbs the sauce, and the bites won’t be as crispy if they sit in the sauce for too long. Still super delicious though!
- You can adjust the amount of spice to your liking by simply adding more or less Frank’s hot sauce. 3 tablespoons to 1/4 cup will give you a nice medium heat, but feel free to add 2 ore 3 more tablespoons if you prefer it hot.

Instructions
- Drain then press tofu to remove extra liquid. You can use tofu press, or wrap tofu block in multiple paper towels, place on plate lined with dish towel or more paper towels, then place cutting board on top of tofu, and another heavy object, such as can on top of cutting board. Let sit for 30 minutes, changing up paper towels halfway thru if soaked.
- Preheat oven to 400° Fahrenheit. Line baking sheet with parchment paper, and set aside.
- In small bowl, mix together cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
- Once tofu is pressed, cut it into cubes.
- In large Ziploc bag, transfer ⅓ tofu cubes, then add about 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixture, and toss well to coat each piece. Remove coated tofu cubes, and place on lined baking sheet into a single layer. Repeat process until all cubes are coated.
- Place baking sheet in oven, and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, then flip each piece of tofu, lightly spray tofu with spay cooking oil, and continue baking for another 15 minutes.
- While tofu is baking, put together buffalo sauce by mixing together melted butter, hot sauce, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and salt in medium bowl.
- Once tofu is ready, toss in buffalo sauce with tongs or spatula, until fully coated. Serve immediately with dip of choice such as ranch or blue cheese dressing, and carrot and celery sticks.
