Air Fryer Popcorn

Buttery popcorn made in the air fryer in minutes. Made without oil and no big pot to clean up, air fryer popcorn is a healthy snack made in under 15 minutes from start to finish.

Close-up of air fryer popcorn in a glass bowl

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Popcorn kernels – You can use kernels from a bag or buy a big jar of them!
Butter – For drizzling over after popping to mimic that delicious movie theater flavor.
Salt – For seasoning your healthy snack!

How To Make Popcorn in the Air Fryer

Line the air fryer basket bottom with a piece of foil. Pour in the kernels in single layer.

Turn on the air fryer and preheat to 400º F for 5 minutes before cooking.

Cook the popcorn until the popping stops. While it’s cooking, melt the butter in the microwave.

Let the air fryer basket sit in the air fryer for another minute or so after the cooking finishes (or pieces of popcorn might pop in your face).

Put the popped popcorn into a bowl and pour melted butter over. Add the salt and cover the bowl (we like using a big bowl with a lid). Toss the popcorn to coat it.

Instructions for air fryer popcorn

Top Tips For Making

  • This method for making popcorn is pretty finicky and will probably take some trial and error to get right with your specific air fryer (since they really vary by make and model). The problem is that air fryers are not CLOSED. The fan and vent are right above the cooking basket, and the popcorn shoots all sorts of little bits around. However, our method is the BEST we’ve tried (and we tried many!). It’s easier to pop on the stovetop, but this method can be great, too!
  • It can be hard to get all the kernels to pop at the same time. We like to take the popped corn out and put the unpopped kernels back in the air fryer. If you leave it until they ALL pop, the ones that popped early on will burn.
  • Make sure not to make a bowl out of your tinfoil. You just want a flat piece lining the bottom. If the sides are high, they will block air flow and keep the popcorn from cooking correctly!

What Do We Mean By “Healthy?”

Our recipes focus on real ingredients and homemade elements. We try to avoid processed flour and sugar, like white flour or white sugar. Our recipes often swap less healthy options (like a commercial, deep-fried tostada) for an easy homemade version.

Our recipes are not necessarily low fat or low calorie, and we aren’t afraid of fat or carbs! Some of our recipes will be “skinny,” low carb, keto, paleo, dairy free, grain free, gluten free, Whole30, or vegan, and they will be labeled when they qualify for any of these diets. All our recipes are easy and family friendly!

Cauliflower Chips

These cauliflower chips are the perfect healthy substitute for potato chips! Perfect for dipping and super customizable, they are the ultimate guilt-free snack.

A circle of cauliflower chips surrounding a cup full of sour cream

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Cauliflower – Use a fresh head
Parmesan cheese – We prefer freshly grated, but you can also use shredded or powdered parmesan
Dried parsley
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Chili powder
Salt
– To taste. We just used a pinch.

Spices for cauliflower chips in a glass bowl next to parmesan cheese in a white bowl

How To Make Cauliflower Chips

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Cut the cauliflower into florets and steam them until they’re tender.

Add the steamed cauliflower to a food processor and pulse a few times until they become crumbs.

Transfer the cauliflower to some cheesecloth and squeeze out any extra liquid.

Add the cauliflower to a large bowl along with the rest of the ingredients. Mix with a large spoon or your hands until it becomes dough-like.

Scoop a tablespoon of the dough and roll it into a ball with your hands. Using the palm of your hand, flatten the ball into a chip about 1/8 of an inch thick. Place the chips on the baking sheet, making sure there is some space between each one.

Bake in the oven until they’re golden brown. Eat alone or serve with your favorite dip!

Instructions for cauliflower chips

Top Tips For Making

  • Cauliflower makes for a great blank canvas, so you add any type of seasoning you like to these. Try them with chipotle powder, paprika, or any other spice you love.
  • Don’t skip the cheesecloth! You definitely want to remove as much moisture as possible from the cauliflower so that the chips don’t end up too mushy.
  • We used an Instant Pot to steam our cauliflower, but you could also use a stovetop or microwave.
  • These chips are absolutely delicious alone, but also amazing with dip. Try them with guacamole, queso, buffalo chicken dip, loaded baked potato dip, or whatever else you can imagine!

Homemade pita chips on a plate with a bowl of hummus

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Whole wheat pitas
Olive oil
Paprika
Sea salt
Cumin

How To Make Homemade Pita Chips

Preheat the oven to 400º F. Line a baking or cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, whisk together all the seasonings and the oil.

Cut each pita into 8 triangles.

Brush each triangle with the oil on both sides and then arrange them on the baking sheet.

  • Make this recipe gluten free by making or using gluten free pitas, flat bread, or naan. Make sure it’s plain if you plan on using any additional spices!

Chocolate Covered Almonds

These chocolate covered almonds are easy, crunchy, and perfect when you need something sweet! With just a few simple ingredients, these almonds make the perfect indulgent, yet healthier dessert. Easy to make vegan and dairy free.

Bowl of chocolate covered almonds

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Almonds
Dark chocolate
Sea salt
Chili powder (optional, but recommended!)

How To Make Chocolate Covered Almonds

Line a baking or cookie sheet with parchment paper and set to the side.

Break your dark chocolate into small pieces and add to a bowl that’s safe for heating.

Fill a pot with water and set the bowl of chocolate inside. (You want to make sure that the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water, but that the sides are covered.) Place the pot on the stove and bring to a low simmer.

Stir the chocolate constantly until it’s almost completely melted. Remove the pot from the heat source and stir the chocolate until it’s smooth.

Pour the almonds into the bowl of melted chocolate and stir, making sure the almonds are completely coated.

With a fork, remove the almonds one by one, wiping any excess chocolate on the side of the bowl. Place them onto the lined baking sheet and sprinkle with sea salt and chili powder.

Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 30 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.

Top Tips For Making

  • To make this recipe vegan or dairy-free, make sure you use dark chocolate without added dairy.
  • We used dark chocolate that had already been sweetened, but if you’d like less sugar, use unsweetened chocolate. You can add sugar or another granulated sweetener to your chocolate when you melt it, stirring to combine.
  • You can also melt your chocolate in the microwave if you prefer. Heat in 20 second intervals, stirring between each cook time, until completely melted.
  • This recipe is easy to make into chocolate almond brittle or clusters, too! Instead of spreading out each individual almond on your baking sheet, clump them together in small piles or pour all the chocolate and almonds into a thin sheet, then freeze.
  • Instead of chili powder, try other flavors, like cinnamon or even crushed peppermint.

What Do We Mean By “Healthy?”

Air Fryer Fried Pickles

This recipe is a pickle lover’s dream come true! Pickles fried in the air fryer are crispy, juicy, and insanely addictive. Even better, this recipe is also keto and gluten free!

Fried pickles on a plate with a side of ranch

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Dill pickles
Eggs
Heavy cream
Almond flour
Parmesan cheese
Cajun seasoning
Cayenne pepper
Avocado oil spray

How To Make Air Fryer Fried Pickles

Cut the pickles in half lengthwise, then cut them again into quarters.

Mix together the eggs and the heavy cream in a shallow dish.

In a separate bowl, mix together the parmesan cheese, almond flour, and the seasoning.

Dip the pickle slices in the egg mixture.

Dip the egg-coated pickles into the almond flour mixture, making sure to coat each side well.

Put the pickles on a tray or plate and freeze until the coating becomes solid, about 15 minutes.

Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400º F. When it’s heated, spray the air fryer baking sheet or basket with the oil so that the pickles won’t stick.

Arrange the pickles in a single layer in the air fryer. Spray them with some more oil.

Cook for 10-12 minutes in the air fryer at 400º F. Flip them halfway through the cook time.

Top Tips For Making

  • If you’re on a keto diet, make sure you use sugar-free pickles. We used Bubbies for ours.
  • No need to run out a buy a block of parmesan to grate! You can use pre-grated parm, including the kind that comes in a plastic shaker!

Cucumber Chips

These cucumber chips will totally curb your chip cravings, but without all the carbs! Salt and vinegar flavored, but easy to customize, they are perfectly crunchy, salty, and taste like junk food with no junk!

Cucumber chips in a bowl

What You’ll Need To Make This Recipe

Cucumbers
Avocado oil
Salt
Vinegar

How To Make Cucumber Chips

Preheat the oven to 175º F.

Line a baking or cookie sheet with some parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet.

Wash the cucumbers and slice them into thin rounds. They should be thin, but not so much that you can see through them.

Mix together the oil, vinegar, and salt in a large bowl.

Gently dip the cucumber slices into the avocado oil mixture.

Place the slices on the cookie sheet and bake for 3-4 hours until crispy.

Top Tips For Making

  • Use a sharp knife or a mandolin to cut your cucumber into slices, but, obviously, be really careful! You want the slices to be thin enough to get crispy, but not so thin that they stick to the cookie sheet.
  • If you’re not a fan of salt and vinegar, omit the vinegar. You can also add things like cayenne pepper if you want a kick, garlic salt, or smoked paprika. The cucumbers are basically a blank canvas!
  • We used medium-sized cucumbers for our chips, but smaller ones have smaller seeds. It’s just whatever your personal preference is!
  • If you have a dehydrator, you can cook these chips at 125-135º F for 10-12 hours.

What Do We Mean By “Healthy?”

Keto Fries

These fries will be the best fries you ever ate on keto, or maybe ever! Salty, garlicky, and wonderfully crispy, you won’t believe that they’re low in net carbs and perfectly delicious, whether you’re on keto or not.

Fries on a plate with a side of ranch

What You’ll Need To Make Keto Fries

Rutabagas – About 1/3 lower in net carbs than potatoes, rutabagas make fries that taste like the perfect combo of regular fries and sweet potato fries.
Avocado oil – A neutral oil like avocado lightly flavors the fries without making them too greasy.
Paprika and garlic salt
– These seasonings help add a kick of flavor to the fries. Don’t skip them!
Sea salt and black pepper

How To Make This Recipe

  1. Preheat your oven to 400º F.
  2. Peel the rutabagas and slice them into sticks about 1/4 inch wide each. (See the top tips for how to cut a rutabaga!)
  3. Toss the rutabaga fries with the oil and seasonings in a large bowl.
  4. Place an oven-safe baking rack on top of a large cookie sheet. Arrange the fries on the rack in a single layer, leaving some space between each one.
  5. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the fries are crispy. If the fries are not crispy enough, switch the oven to broil for a few minutes at the end of the cook time.

Top Tips For Making

  • Rutabagas are tough to cut, so we recommend using a sharp knife, in particular a butcher knife. Sharp knives have way less chance of slipping and cutting you, and you don’t need to apply as much pressure to cut through the rutabaga’s tough skin. This post has some great tips for cutting a rutabaga.
  • Don’t skimp on the seasoning! Like potatoes, rutabagas have a light, mild flavor on their own and primarily get their flavor from the spices added.
  • These fries are delicious with our Whole30 dump ranch, Whole30 ketchup, honey mustard, or any other condiment you like with fries!

Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

Is there anything better than a cheesy, crispy mozzarella stick? Cooking homemade or frozen mozzarella sticks in the air fryer is the ultimate way to get gooey, deliciously seasoned mozzarella sticks with a perfectly crunchy crust. We even included the recipe for an amazing gluten free homemade version!

Plate of homemade mozzarella sticks

Why This Recipe Is So Good

  • The air fryer is absolutely the best for making delicious, perfectly textured foods, and mozzarella sticks are no exception! It’s so easy to make cheesy, gooey mozzarella sticks that are heated the whole way through – no frozen bits!
  • This recipe couldn’t be easier! You can either pop some frozen pre-made mozzarella sticks in your air fryer for the perfect snack, or make your own oh-so-seasoned ones with a few simple ingredients and pantry staples.
  • Our homemade mozzarella sticks are super flavorful with garlic powder and Italian seasoning, but really easy to throw together by using cheese sticks. We actually prefer them to the frozen kind, and they’re gluten free, too!

How To Make Homemade Mozzarella Sticks in the Air Fryer

  1. Cut cheese sticks in half and stick in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  2. Add a beaten egg to one bowl, flour in another bowl, and bread crumbs and spices in a third.
  3. Dip the cheese sticks in the egg, then the flour, the egg again, and then the bread crumbs.
  4. Places the breaded cheese sticks back in the freezer for about 30 minutes to let everything stick to them and harden.
  5. Cook in the air fryer at 370º for 6 minutes. Turn over in the middle of cooking.
