Vegan Apple Crisp
Ingredients
Filling
- 10 cups apples peeled and sliced into ½” slices or chunks, about 6-8 medium apples
- ½ cup packed brown sugar light or dark
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Topping
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour spooned and levelled
- ¾ cup packed light brown sugar or dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup vegan butter cold and cubed
- 1 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats
Additional Toppings (Optional)
- Vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce
Equipment
- Medium sized baking dish
- 2 large bowls
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º F. In a large bowl, toss together all the filling ingredients until the apple pieces are well coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into medium sized baking dish.
- Stir together the flour, sugar and cinnamon in another large bowl. Add the butter, and either rub the butter into the flour mixture with your hands, or use a pastry cutter. Stir in the oats.
- Spread topping over apple mixture, covering evenly. Using hands is recommended. Bake for 35 minutes, or until top is beginning to brown.
- Serve warm with ice cream and caramel sauce, if liked.
