This easy copycat recipe for that famous Texas Roadhouse cinnamon honey butter takes less than 5 minutes to make and only uses 6 ingredients! It’s rich and creamy, the perfect balance of cinnamon and sweet. If you ask me, it even tastes better than the restaurant version.
I hope you’re ready because this simple whipped butter tastes just like the cinnamon honey butter served at Texas Roadhouse! Actually, if you ask me, I think it tastes even better than theirs – especially when it’s fresh!
The rich, sweet, cinnamony flavor isn’t the only reason to love this spread, though. It’s also ridiculously easy to make! Just toss a handful of ingredients into a bowl and mix them together. That’s it!
In less than 5 minutes, you’ll have a bowl of restaurant-quality cinnamon butter that’s begging to be slathered all over warm yeast rolls, cornbread, banana bread, even your morning pancakes or sweet potato waffles. Now that I mention it, it’s perfect on sweet potatoes, too!
Homemade vs. Store-Bought Cinnamon Butter
You can actually buy official Texas Roadhouse cinnamon butter at Walmart. Several other grocery stores offer a store-brand version that’s similar, too.
So why should you make your own cinnamon honey butter instead of just buying one of those?
When you make it yourself, you’re in control of everything that goes into it! You can use organic, grass-fed butter or raw, local honey. You could replace the sugar with a low-glycemic sweetener. If you want, you can even just make it extra cinnamony.
Depending on your ingredients, there’s not a big price difference between homemade cinnamon honey butter and the pre-made stuff. It’s not a difficult or super involved recipe, so making your own doesn’t take much more effort, either.
Ingredients, Substitutions, & Variations
The full list of recipe ingredients with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
The ingredient list for Texas Roadhouse cinnamon honey butter is super simple. You don’t need anything fancy, and there aren’t really any important notes or crucial details to keep in mind.
- Butter. I recommend using unsalted butter so you can control how much salt is actually in the recipe. Different brands of butter contain different amounts of salt, so you could end up with cinnamon butter that’s way too salty.
- Make this recipe vegan and dairy-free by using a plant-based butter. We haven’t tested it with ghee, but it should work fine!
- Cinnamon. If your jar of ground cinnamon has been hanging out in your spice cabinet for a while, pick up a new one to use in your butter. The flavor fades over time!
- Honey. Got allergies? It’s not proven, but local honey is thought to help build your allergen tolerance since it’s made with pollen from your area. Buying local is also a great way to support beekeepers near you!
- Swapping honey for maple syrup is a fun way to change up the flavor of the butter. I especially love this version in the fall!
- To reduce the amount of sugar in the cinnamon honey butter, replace the honey with your favorite honey-flavored alternative liquid sweetener.
- Sugar. Confectioners’ sugar gives the recipe the sweetness it needs without making the texture gritty.
- You can replace the sugar with your preferred alternative sweetener if you want! Just make sure to adjust the amount appropriately. Not all substitutes are a 1:1 swap!
- Kosher Salt. Coarse sea salt will also work! If you replace this with table salt, make sure to cut back on the amount. Regular salt is more concentrated than kosher salt, so you’ll want to use about half as much.
How to Make & Store Cinnamon Honey Butter
This is just an overview! Full instructions for this recipe can be found in the recipe card below.
Recipe Instructions
To make Texas Roadhouse cinnamon butter, just add everything to a mixing bowl and use a hand mixer (or a stand mixer!) to mix it all together. It’s that easy! You may need to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a silicone spatula occasionally just to make sure everything is mixed well.
Storage Instructions
You can serve the honey butter as soon as it’s made, or you can transfer it to an airtight container and save it for later. Store it at room temperature and consume it within 3 days, or store it in the fridge and consume it within 1 month.
Bring the refrigerated butter to room temperature by letting it hang out on the counter for 15-20 minutes before serving it.
Freezer Instructions
To freeze the cinnamon honey butter, I like to portion it into multiple airtight, freezer-safe containers. That way, I can defrost a small amount at a time instead of the full batch. Just make sure to use them all within 6 months!
Defrost the butter in the fridge overnight, then bring it to room temperature before serving. Once it’s softened, you may need to mix it for a few seconds to make the consistency nice and smooth again.
What to Serve with Cinnamon Butter
For an authentic Texas Roadhouse style experience, warm yeast rolls are the best vessel for homemade cinnamon honey butter. It’s not your only option, though!
- Cornbread. Especially a sweet cornbread!
- Banana Bread. Adding cinnamon honey butter to a slice of warm banana bread basically turns it into a baked-goods-version of bananas foster. I can’t think of anything dreamier than that!
- Muffins. Along the lines of banana bread, adding a schmear of butter to a warm muffin instantly makes it richer and more moist. Blueberry, banana nut, apple cinnamon, bran or oat, cranberry orange, and pumpkin muffins would all be divine with these flavors!
- Pancakes, Waffles, Biscuits, French Toast, & Bagels. Ohhh, yes. All of them. Cinnamon honey butter makes any bready breakfast food 1000x more delicious.
- Sweet Potatoes. Think about it! Butter and cinnamon are already natural partners for a fluffy sweet potato, and it makes sense that honey fits in nicely, too. Add a pat or two of cinnamon butter to microwaved, baked, air fried, or slow cooked sweet potatoes and enjoy every bite! You could even use it on sweet potato rice!
