Toss out your toaster – cook your frozen waffles in the air fryer instead! This quick and easy method is a totally foolproof way to go from fully-frozen to hot, fluffy, slightly crisp waffles in roughly 5 minutes. You don’t even need to preheat!

🧇 What Makes This Method So Good

  • Cooking frozen waffles in the air fryer is so unbelievably easy and fast. You don’t even need to waste time preheating the air fryer! And sure, you’re probably thinking “OK, Cheryl, but the toaster is fast, too”, and you’re not wrong. BUT the toaster is also usually pretty unreliable and inconsistent, sometimes needing 2-3 sessions to get the waffles warm and crisp. Even then you risk ending up with cold spots or one burnt side or just drying out the waffles altogether. The air fryer eliminates all of that, leaving you with perfectly cooked waffles every single time.

🧇 Chef’s Tips

  • How long do you cook frozen waffles in the air fryer? That depends! The type of waffles you’re using makes a difference, and so do your personal preferences. In general, you only need 4-6 minutes to get perfectly cooked waffles on the table. Check out the Notes on the recipe card below for more specifics.
  • You don’t need to use any spray oil or anything extra here. Just pop the frozen waffles straight into the air fryer and let it works its magic! If you prefer your waffles super, super crispy, though, you’re welcome to lightly spritz them with a neutral spray oil that’s safe for air fryers.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Spatula

Instructions

  • Optional: preheat air fryer to 350° Fahrenheit. Once air fryer is preheated, proceed with instructions below. Preheated air fryers may need shorter cook times than mentioned below.
  • Place frozen waffles in air fryer basket in one even layer, making sure not to overcrowd basket or stack waffles. Work in batches as needed depending on size of air fryer and size of waffles.
  • Place basket in air fryer and set temperature to 350° Fahrenheit (if air fryer is not already preheated). Air fry waffles 3 minutes, then remove basket from air fryer.
  • Carefully flip waffles over, then return basket to air fryer. Cook waffles another 1 to 2 minutes depending on desired doneness (see Notes).

  • Once waffles are cooked as desired, remove basket from air fryer and carefully transfer cooked waffles to plates. Add desired toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

  • The instructions above are for fully frozen waffles cooked in an air fryer that was not preheated. If you preheat your air fryer, you’ll likely need to shorten the cook time by 1-2 minutes. Also, if you’re cooking multiple batches of waffles, you’ll want to shorten the cook time on all batches after the first one.
  • For my tastes and using my air fryer, 5 minutes total gives me the perfect waffle texture – soft and moist, with slightly crispy edges. See below for suggested cook times based on type of waffles and preferred texture.
  • Cook times will vary from one air fryer to another and depending on the size, number, and age of your frozen waffles. The first few times you cook the waffles in the air fryer, keep an eye on them and adjust the time and temperature as needed based on your preferences and your air fryer.

Suggested Cook Times

  • For softer waffles with less crunch, cook waffles for 4 minutes total.
  • For crunchier waffles, cook for 6 minutes total.
  • For Belgian waffles, cook 4 minutes total, or 5 minutes total for crispy Belgian waffles.
  • For gluten-free waffles, cook 2-3 minutes total. 4 minutes or more will make the gluten-free waffles very dry.
