If you’re looking for a fun family dinner or Game Day sharer that is packed with different flavors and textures look no further than our Cajun Salmon Loaded Fries. Made with your go-to brand of frozen French Fries, tender pieces of spiced blackened salmon, and loaded up with your favorite Tex-Mex toppings plus melted cheese, they’re spicy, creamy, and very addictive!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • These Salmon Fries are the perfect ‘choose your own adventure’ dinner for picky eaters! With a base of cheesy fries topped with flavorful blackened salmon, your choice of sliced avocado, fresh Pico de Gallo salsa (or your usual brand of jarred salsa), chopped green onions, pickled jalapeños, sour cream or crema, corn kernals, and black beans can be loaded on top.
  • You can make the fries in the air fryer (you can even melt the cheese in the air fryer basket if you don’t mind the cheesy fries getting mixed around a bit) so it still works if you don’t want to turn the oven on.

Chef’s Tips

  • Prepare all your ingredients and prep the salmon while the French fries are cooking, as once the salmon hit the skillet these loaded fries come together really quickly!
  • Use this simple method for making Salmon Fries but change up the flavors and toppings to turn it into a totally different meal! Taco seasoning or even Tajin on the salmon will make these slightly more Tex-Mex, and simple seared salmon (or miso salmon!) can take you in an Asian direction with drizzles of sriracha and Kewpie mayonnaise, a scattering of furikake seasoning, more avocado and even a couple of shredded nori sheets.

Equipment

  • cast-iron skillet
  • Large oven-safe platter or cast-iron skillet

Instructions

  • Bake or air fry the French fries according to package directions, until golden and crispy. If you are air frying them, toss them a couple of times during cooking to make sure they cook evenly.
  • Once fries are cooked, spread them on a large oven-safe platter or cast-iron skillet. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and return to oven for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts. Alternatively, scatter the cheese over the fries and air fry, turning them out onto a serving dish once the cheese has melted.
  • Meanwhile, cut the salmon into bite-sized cubes. Toss with olive oil, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
  • Heat a cast-iron skillet over a medium-high heat. Sear the salmon for 2–3 minutes per side until blackened outside and just cooked inside. Remove and set aside.
  • Scatter the blackened salmon cubes on top of the cheesy fries. Spoon over Pico de Gallo, avocado, pickled jalapeños, corn/beans if using. Drizzle sour cream or chipotle crema over the top, and finish with chopped green onions and cilantro.
