This simple, homemade dill sauce couldn’t be easier – or more delicious! Ready in 5 minutes or less, it’s a beautiful blend of textures and flavors. Pair this creamy dill sauce with salmon patties or fillets for a match made in culinary heaven, or serve it alongside your favorite veggies for a delicious dipping sauce.

What We Love About This Recipe

  1. We’re huge fans of savory and creamy, and this dill sauce totally fits the bill.
  2. It’s made entirely of simple ingredients. Sour cream, mayo, lemon juice, dill, and a bit of salt and pepper. You probably have at least half of those in your kitchen right now.
  3. Despite containing both mayo AND sour cream, this dill sauce isn’t overly rich. It’s light with a delicious tanginess and a burst of freshness from the herbs and citrus juice.
  4. It only takes about 5 minutes to make. Fish with a cream sauce is a go-to dinner at my house because it literally comes together in minutes.
  5. Dill sauce is perfect for salmon fillets or salmon patties, but it’s actually super versatile. You can pair it with almost any basic seafood or even poultry recipe! You could also use it with veggies, like fresh zucchini or cucumber, or even air fryer asparagus, accordion potatoes, or grilled broccolini.

Chef’s Tips

  • We recommend a base of full-fat sour cream for this dill sauce, but if you’re running low (or don’t like sour cream) then don’t panic. Greek yogurt will work, too! Either will give the sauce that light tanginess it needs.
  • This recipe makes a fairly small batch of dill sauce, and that’s intentional. I recommend using it as soon as it’s prepared, but it should be okay up to 24 hours if you refrigerate it in an airtight container.
  • For even more flavor, feel free to mix in a little onion powder or garlic if you’d like. I also encourage you to adjust the amounts of the ingredients in the recipe to your preferences!
  • If the dill sauce consistency is too thick, a little more sour cream should do the trick. You could also add a touch of milk to thin it out.

I substituted Greek yogurt for all of the sour cream, lime juice for lemon juice and used dried dill. I served it with salmon patties and avocado lime rice. It was delicious! Thank you for such a simple recipe.
