Glazed Pecans

Simple and sweet glazed pecans may be super easy to make, but don’t let that fool you! They’ve got tons of warm, rich flavor, all from a handful of ingredients. Make them part of your next grazing board, set out a bowl for your dinner guests, or bundle them up for a tasty holiday gift. However you serve these maple-cinnamon glazed pecans, I guarantee you won’t be able to eat just one!
What We Love About This Recipe
- Everyone has a different take on glazed pecans, and they’re all delicious. This recipe in particular is on the sweeter side, with a brown sugar and maple syrup glaze. It’s offset nicely by the earthiness of the nuts and ground cinnamon, not to mention the touch of salt to round it all out.
- Making these glazed pecans seriously could not be any easier! Honestly, if you wanted to skip the stove and use the microwave instead, you probably could.
Glazed Pecans vs. Candied Pecans – What’s the Difference?
Though they’re often used interchangeably, there’s actually a tangible difference between glazed pecans and candied pecans!
Candied pecans are typically covered in a mixture made from egg whites and sugar.
Glazed pecans, on the other hand, skip the egg whites and instead use a mixture of sugar, butter, and a liquid sweetener (in this case, maple syrup).
Cheryl’s Tips
- Use unsalted butter for the glaze. That way, you can control exactly how much salt goes on the pecans!
- Don’t add the pecans to the skillet until the glaze is hot and bubbling. If you add them too early, the glaze won’t crisp up, and you’ll be left with sticky or soggy pecans.
- Feel free to play around with this recipe and make it your own. Swap out the pecans for glazed cashews or walnuts. Instead of cinnamon, try an apple pie or pumpkin pie spice blend. Sprinkle in a little cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes, or replace the maple syrup with water for a less-sweet glaze.

Glazed Pecans
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 packed tablespoons dark brown sugar
- salt 1 pinch up to 1 teaspoon, to taste
- 2 cups raw pecan halves
Equipment
- Oven
- large baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- medium skillet
- whisk
- Silicone spatula
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Line large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Place medium skillet on stovetop over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons unsalted butter to skillet and let butter melt completely, swirling and tilting pan as needed to distribute butter across entire surface.
- Once butter has melted, add 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, 2 packed tablespoons dark brown sugar, and salt (to taste) to skillet. Whisk until ingredients are well incorporated. Continue cooking glaze mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture is bubbly.
- When glaze is bubbly, add 2 cups raw pecan halves to skillet. Cook pecans 3 minutes, stirring or tossing pecans constantly to coat in cinnamon glaze.
- Once pecans are thoroughly coated in cinnamon glaze, transfer pecans to prepared baking sheet. Spread pecans out over parchment paper in one even layer, then place baking sheet in preheated oven.
- Bake pecans 5 to 10 minutes or until fragrant and golden brown in color. Check pecans frequently to prevent burning.
- When pecans are ready, carefully remove baking sheet from oven and set aside. Let pecans cool completely, then transfer pecans to serving bowl or storage container and serve as desired.
Notes
- Make it Vegan: Replace butter with refined coconut oil.
- Storage: Leftover glazed pecans can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container up to 1 week.

I used to be a restaurant manager and we used to make these in massive batches! We used them on salads mostly, but we also used them on our mashed sweet potatoes and in our wraps. So yummy! The only thing we did different is to add just a pinch of cayenne. It was a ”just barely there, can’t quite put my finger on it” something that made them a popular topping. I’ve also used white pepper for a subtle difference. Both are massive hits with everyone who has tried them. I make them ALL the time – and at every holiday. I always know to bring copies of the recipe also…

When do you put in the cinnamon?
