Close up of a salad in a wooden bowl with sliced apples and homemade gluten free croutons.

Either if you’ve got the end of a gluten-free loaf to use up, or you just want to level-up your salad game, this recipe for Gluten Free Croutons is for you! In just 25 minutes you’ll have made handfuls of crisp, crunchy croutons which will keep nice and crisp for up to a week.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • These Gluten Free Croutons are super crisp and crunchy, but still soft enough in the middle that they’re easy to eat.
  • With simple seasonings of just garlic, salt and pepper these croutons will work with all sorts of soups and salads. Try them with our Gluten Free Cream of Chicken Soup, Gluten Free Potato Soup, Ground Chicken Soup, or to add extra crunch to a copycat Chick-Fill-A Cobb Salad.

Chef’s Tips

  • Spread the croutons out really well on the baking sheet, and if you think they look a bit crowded, use a bigger sheet. You want the air to circulate around them in the oven to get them super crispy!
  • These gluten free croutons are best enjoyed stored at room temperature in an air-tight container. Keeping them in the refrigerator will make them go stale and soggy.

Ingredients

  • ½ loaf of gluten-free bread about 9 ounces, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 3 tbsp olive oil plus more as needed
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.  Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, evenly drizzle the olive oil over the bread chunks.  Then evenly sprinkle the garlic powder, salt and pepper over the bread.  Toss gently until well-combined.
  • Spread the bread cubes out in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  • Bake until golden, turning once halfway through cooking in order to brown all sides of the croutons.  Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the cubes, so watch to be sure that they do not burn. (Mine generally take between 15-20 minutes.)
  • Remove from oven, and let cool completely.  Use immediately, or store in an air-tight container for up to 1 week.

Notes

Spread the croutons out really well on the baking sheet, and if you think they look a bit crowded, us a bigger sheet. You want the air to circulate around them in the oven to get them super crispy!
