This one-skillet kielbasa and cabbage recipe is so delicious and easy to make, you’ll want it on the menu every week! Savory, satisfying, and nutrient-dense, your entire household will love this easy recipe.

Kielbasa and cabbage in a large skillet.

What We Love About This Recipe

  1. This kielbasa and cabbage recipe is all done right in ONE skillet. You heard me! One pan, a.k.a. minimal clean-up and next to no dishes.
  2. It comes together in roughly 30 minutes and is super easy to make. You and your family will love how quickly dinner will be on the table.
  3. It’s absolutely delicious. Hearty and satisfying, yes, but also full of savory flavors.

Is This Recipe Good for Meal Prep?

Absolutely! In fact, kielbasa and cabbage probably tastes WAY better the second day. Just put the remainders in an airtight storage container and refrigerate for around 3-4 days.

Chef’s Tips

  • Don’t drain the skillet after cooking the kielbasa. Cooking the cabbage in the leftover liquid gives it SO much extra flavor!
  • Make sure all your kielbasa pieces are roughly the same size so they cook at the same speed. Be careful not to burn them, and don’t be afraid to add more oil to the skillet as needed.

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • large wooden spoon
  • large plate

Instructions

  • Place large skillet on stovetop over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon avocado oil to skillet and heat pan until oil is hot and shimmery.
  • When oil is hot, add 14 ounces kielbasa to skillet. Sauté kielbasa, flipping pieces occasionally, until lightly browned on both sides, approximately 5 to 7 minutes total. Transfer browned kielbasa to plate and set aside.
  • Add 1 tablespoon avocado oil to skillet if needed and heat oil until shimmery. Add 1 cup finely chopped white onion to skillet. Stir to incorporate, then sauté onions, stirring occasionally, until softened, approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Once onions have softened, add 1 ½ tablespoons minced garlic to skillet and stir to incorporate. Sauté garlic 30 to 60 seconds or until fragrant.
  • Add 8 cups thinly sliced green cabbage to skillet and stir to incorporate. Cook cabbage, stirring frequently, 10 to 12 minutes or until cabbage is slightly wilted and onions have darkened.
  • When cabbage has wilted, add 1 teaspoon paprika and stir until evenly incorporated.
  • Return kielbasa to skillet and cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until kielbasa is hot.
  • Season kielbasa and cabbage with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
  • When satisfied with seasoning, divide dish into preferred portions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Cabbage: See my post on How to Shred Cabbage (3 Ways) for my favorite cabbage prep methods.
  • Leftovers: Let kielbasa and cabbage cool completely, then transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop over low heat.

I bought homemade smoked kielbasa at our local farmers market this past weekend at the urging of the sweet lady that made it, yet had no idea what to do with it. It was kismet when I received my 40 Aprons e-mail today with this very recipe. I have to admit, I was leery. How could cabbage and kielbasa be enough for a meal and how could it possibly be good? Do not question and make this ASAP. It was DELICIOUS! Thank you!
